Baby boomer and author Johanna van Zanten writes:
Adrienne is the quintessential daredevil and a leader of her generation. Why? Adrienne would rather try anything once, so she won’t have to say: “I wished I had done that, but was too afraid to try." Adrienne’s experiences and those of her friends are typical for many women. But only Adrienne with her fortitude and independent streak could cross the Atlantic for a man she hardly knew and almost a decade younger. Only she could start her own matchmaking agency, when on-line dating after divorce did not bring her the results she hoped for. What will Adrienne do next when retirement looms with an empty nest and no partner?
ON THIN ICE is a novella of twelve interconnected short stories about baby boomer Adrienne and her friends searching for emotionally satisfying relationships. These entertaining, poignant and at times moving stories about discovering ecstasy; love & marriage; the end of a life; and of course, of dating after fifty, might appeal to readers of any generation.
A bit about the author: Johanna was born and raised in the Netherlands. She obtained a Fine Arts degree in Amsterdam and entered the social work profession as a creative therapist with heroin addicts. She immigrated to Canada in her early thirties, returned to university and graduated from University of Victoria, BC, with a Bachelor in Social Work degree and has since worked in her field. She discovered writing three years ago when she took creative writing courses with author-in-residence Laisha Rosnau at UBC-Okanagan and Dona Sturmanis at Okanagan College. She wrote her stories to inspire, entertain or move others in a time where marriage Till Death Do Us Part is not so common anymore and many are looking for emotional fulfillment. Her story Fort Good Hope was published in the May 2011 Maple Tree Literary Supplement and short listed for the UBC/OC/CBC Okanagan Short Story contest of 2011. Another story, Without A Home, made honorary mention in the short story contest for new writers in Glimmer Train literary magazine of Feb 2012.
On Thin Ice is Johanna's first fictional work, published by Bookbaby.com as an E book and available after May 1, 2012 for your E reader at: i Bookstore, Sony, Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Baker & Tyler, Copia, Gardner's and eBookPie.
